What I’d Do Differently With My Wedding Bouquet
After preserving so many wedding bouquets, you start to notice what really lasts.
I don’t just mean physically, though that’s part of it, but emotionally too. Certain flowers, colours, & little choices become memory markers that stay with you long after the day itself.
If I could do my bouquet again, here’s what I’d change:
Seasonal Flowers
Seasonal blooms hit differently when they come back around each year, especially on your anniversary. Hellebores & daffodils, for example, start popping up & I instantly think, this was our month.
Though they weren’t in my bouquet (I wish I’d added them!), we had potted hellebores as part of our wedding décor. They’re now planted in the garden, & seeing them on our anniversary feels extra special. Naturally, some of those are now pressed too!
Flowers That Press Well
Not all flowers are created equal when it comes to bouquet preservation. Lisianthus, for example, can be tricky - they don’t always press very well. I’d now choose flowers that press more reliably, ensuring your pressed wedding bouquet is beautiful for years to come.
Colour, Shape & CompositioN
I’d go for more pinks, less white, more flowers & a bit less foliage. A looser, airier shape would also let each bloom shine on its own.
Plan Preservation in Advance
One thing I’ve learned is that planning for flower preservation before the wedding is essential. Space ready, materials ready, clear process in place. No last-minute scrambling the morning after the wedding before heading off on honeymoon! That first attempt didn’t give great results - but it did start me on this journey of preserving flowers for others, & I wouldn’t change that.
Final Thoughts on Preserving Wedding Bouquets
It’s amazing what you learn after handling hundreds of wedding bouquets for preservation. Each bouquet tells a story, & every detail teaches you something about what lasts and what doesn’t.
If you’re planning your wedding flowers, & even thinking about preserving them, design your bouquet with that in mind. Future you will be so glad you did.
